Risk

Why are people afraid to take risks?  Are they afraid they will loose or are they afraid they will win?  There are many quotes by famous people about why you should take risks.  I think the following says it very well.

                        Risk

To laugh

Is to risk appearing the fool.

To weep

     Is to risk appearing sentimental.

To reach out for another

     Is to risk involvement.

To expose feelings

Is to risk exposing your true self.

To place your ideas and dreams before the crowd

     Is to risk loss.

To love

Is to risk not being loved in return.

To live

     Is to risk dying.

To hope

     Is to risk in despair.

To try at all

     Is to risk failure,

But risk we must

Because the greatest hazard in life

     Is to risk nothing.

A Recent History of the Work Place

In the 1800’s most people were self-employed, working their land or selling their goods and services.

In the 1900’s most people worked for a company, trading their time and expertise for wages.  This was made possible by the industrial revolution.  Those who were not good at managing (or too lazy to manage) their own time and talents liked this form of work because it was easier and played into man’s desire to remain within his/her comfort zone.

Now that we are into the 2000’s the pendulum is changing back to being self-employed.  This has mainly been made possible thanks to the World Wide Web.  People are beginning to realize that it is smarter to be in charge of their destiny instead of turning their life over to others.

Big business is also taking advantage of our shrinking world by outsourcing their work to people in other countries who are just as capable as we are yet demand a lot less in return.

Now for the hard part: we must realize and accept the fact that we are where we are in life because of the choices we and we alone have made.  If we are not living the life we deserve, then it is the person looking back at us in the mirror that is to blame, no one else.

Once we accept this as Truth, we can then do something to change it.  Not everyone was made to be their own boss, to have their own business and that is a good thing.  Yet we must all look at ourselves as being self-employed, because no matter who signs our paycheck, we do work for ourselves.

So you have three choices:

  1. You can continue to work for someone else and be treated as a machine that will be replaced when your usefulness is no longer desired.
  2. You can be your own boss and either work with someone else on your terms or run your own business.
  3. You can do nothing and let life just happen to you.

You must realize and accept as Truth that thanks to modern technology the world is shrinking in many ways.  It is no longer my country versus your country or my race or religion versus yours.  We are all becoming interconnected.  It is now possible to easily communicate with all parts of the world, to trade knowledge, talent and services with all corners of the world.

Those of us who desire to be self-employed and work from our home can do it thanks to the Internet.  And we can do it on a part-time basis until we are easily replacing our W-2 wages with our 1099 earnings.

There is enough wealth to go around for everyone on Planet Earth, with plenty left over for future generations.  We just need to think and act differently.  We need to believe that we can, and we will.

For those of us who still desire and feel that we can do the most good for ourselves and others by working with a company (and there are many good reasons to choose this) then you might want to read a very eye opening  mini-book called Work 2.0: Rewriting the Contract  by Bill Jensen.  It is a short 15-page read (there is also a shorter 3-page version) that will open your eyes, providing you want to get your head out of the sand.  In fact it is what inspired me to write to you.

Many people have said that thanks to the Internet we have now entered the Information Age.  Some say we are past the Information Age and are now into the Action Age.  And some people even state that we have progressed beyond the Action Age and are now into the Social Networking Age.

No wonder time seems to go so fast these days.  Yes, our world is shrinking and we need to adjust or go the way of the Neanderthal Man (recent studies now indicate that they did not become extinct due to climate, rather they became extinct because they were not willing to adjust to changes).

Whatever reality you find yourself in is capable of being

altered by you at any time you want.  It is not altered by

changing what is outside of you; it’s altered by changing how

you choose to process your life.  Wayne Dyer

How will your life change in the next 24 hours?

Some people will make millions in the next 24 hours.  Some people will make thousands.  Some people will make zero.

As I see it there are only two things different among the three groups:

1)     the knowledge they have gained over time and

2)     What they do with that knowledge in the next 24 hours

Knowledge is available to us all if only we take the time to find it.  With the power of the Internet it is very easy to find.  And it doesn’t matter what our color, religion, sex, nationality, education, or age are; we all have the same 24 hours to use or misuse as we choose.

Choose to use your time wisely.

A lot of people are out of work and looking for any job that will put bread on the table.  A lot of us are worried that we may soon loose our jobs.  A lot of us are considering taking on a second job just to pay the bills.

Many of us are realizing that the best form of security is the belief in our ability to succeed.  Because of all  that is happening with the economy,

2008 will be the year that many home-based businesses

are successfully started.

The problem with starting a home-based business is where to start, what kind of business to start and will I be able to afford the startup cost and make the business successful.

The goal is to find something you enjoy doing, something that gives you great satisfaction.  Ideally you will want a business with no employees, very little paperwork and no product shipment, unless you like those things.

It will also be of great help if you can have business associates that will help you  grow your business.

As you can imagine, there are very few businesses that will fit your description.  Some of the best places to look are network marketing businesses.  You can search a database of over 950 companies at http://www.npros.com

The main problem with network marketing businesses is the fact that about 90% of the distributors spend more than they make and people use that as an excuse for not attempting to succeed.

Yet  90-95% of all businesses fail in the 1st 3 years.

One reason for this is the networker’s mental state: “Most networkers are only employee-minded people pretending to be entrepreneurs, which means they’ll rarely do what it takes to be successful.”

Thanks to the power of the Internet and the ability to build relationships with people through email marketing the success rate is climbing.

Since you are a person who uses computers and the Internet and since I am sure you know many others who use computers and the Internet, wouldn’t it be great if you could help

fund your own business by sharing with others a very new way

to access the Internet.

Yes, I am talking about very high speed (7 times faster than DSL) wireless Internet connections for less than $20 a month.  This technology will revolutionize the way we access the Internet.  If you want to also have unlimited long distance calling for less than $10 a month, they will have that also.

Why, I would be willing to bet that once they get these programs off the ground and running smoothly, the next logical step would be cell phone usage with zero dead spots anywhere, even up to 20 feet below ground.  “Can you hear me now?”

Check it out for yourself  at http://WirelessT1toT3.com

and see if this isn’t the best and easiest to promote service you have ever seen.

It cost zero to join as a free affiliate and you are paid $2 a month for everyone who joins you and uses the service.  Everyone they share this with will earn you $2 a month as well.

As an example, say you tell 50 people who use the service when it goes live and they each tell only 20 people.  You would be earning $2,100 a month.

Now that could help you launch and keep going your own home-based business and all you did was share the service with 50 people.

After all, very few people will say no to this.  So stop whatever you are doing and go Now to  http://WirelessT1toT3.com and sign up as a Free Affiliate.

Does Slavery Still Persist in America Today?

I hesitate to give this to you for 3 reasons:

  1. It is written by Joe Schroeder and Joe is a very unusual person.  I can still remember when I first met him at a meeting in New York City many years ago.  He was outrageous then and he is outrageous today.  Did I mention that he is also very successful and living his dream?
  2. When I first loaded this online pdf, I had to reboot my computer because it locked up.  Can’t say for sure that it was the weight of Joe’s message or not.
  3. I am not an affiliate of Joe’s, so if you buy into his program, I won’t benefit, except that I may have helped you along your road to your success and I will never know because you won’t take the time to thank me.

With all of that being said, if you want to read this article (6 pages) that Joe wrote about “Does Slavery Still Persist in America Today?”, then here is the link to get to it.

http://debramorrison.biz/SlaveryPersistsinAmerica.pdf  Debra Morrison is the person who sent it to me.  She will benefit, as well as you, if you decide to get involved with Joe.

Expectation -

I subscribe to too many things.  It’s an addiction I have.  I figure the more I learn, the more I will know, the more I will be able to help others.  However, somewhere in that equation I must also take action or all of the knowledge in the world won’t help you succeed.

Anyway, below is a quote from Abraham in the series of Abraham-Hicks.  You can sign up for their free daily quotes at http://www.abraham-hicks.com/lawofattractionsource/index.php.

Expectation indicates the juncture between where you are and where you want to be… Where you want to be, is your desire, and where you are, is your Set-point or habit of thought. And somewhere, in there, is what we would call expectation. Expectation, whether it is wanted or unwanted, is a powerful point of attraction… Your expectation is always what you believe. But the word expectation does imply more what you are wanting than what you are not wanting. It is a more positive word than it is a negative word, but of course, you could expect negatively—and whatever you expect, you will get!

Our Love,
Jerry and Esther”

Much of what they talk about has to do with “what you focus on will become what you have”.  When you focus on “I can’t…”  you will get “I don’t have…”

We all have a choice:

·         We can choose to change and grow

·         We can choose to stay the same

·         We can choose to do nothing, which defaults to “stay the same”

There is a saying, I am sure you have heard it before, “If you continue to do what you have always done you will continue to get what you have always gotten.”

As I mentioned earlier, TIME is our most valuable possession.  We all have the same 24 hours in our day.  You can choose to continue on your current path and you will be in the same place in 5 years that you are in today.  You can choose to do the things other successful people do that unsuccessful people are unwilling to do and your life will be so much better 5 years from now.

Which ever choice you make the 5 years will go by.  Would you like to be the person in your ideal day you wrote about from my first blog, 5 years from now?  Or would you like to be the same person in your mirror you see today, 5 years from now, only much older looking than the other you 5 years from now?  The choice is yours.  What will you choose?

Tomorrow

The following is similar in its message to the article by Dr. Bill Toth on “Someday” I published on August 23rd.  However, as I said back in my first post, very few things can be completely original and it helps to hear the same message in different ways because it can affect you in different ways.

                    Tomorrow

He was going to be all that a mortal should be

Tomorrow.  No one should be kinder or braver than

he Tomorrow.  A friend who was troubled and weary

he knew, Who’d be glad of a lift and who needed it,

too; On him he would call and see what he could do

Tomorrow.

Each morning he stacked up the letters he’d

write Tomorrow.  And thought of the folks he would

fill with delight Tomorrow.  It was too bad, indeed, he

was busy today, And hadn’t a minute to stop on his

way; More time he would have to give others, he’d

say, Tomorrow.

The greatest of workers this man would have

been Tomorrow.  The world would have known him,

had he ever seen Tomorrow.  But the fact is he died

and he faded from view.  And all that he left here

when living was through Was a mountain of things

he intended to do tomorrow.

                                                           –Edgar Guest

So, do the best you can with your time today.  Focus on making another person’s day brighter and your day will brighten up.  Don’t wait to do it tomorrow because tomorrow is never guaranteed.  You can only live in today.

This Day

You should awake each morning by reading the following and your day will be greatly enhanced.  (If you are a woman, be sure to change the second to the last line.)

This Day

Today is a new day.  Fresh, unspoiled and full of promise.

Whatever has happened whether it be a hundred years ago or

last evening has no influence upon this day.  The present

knows nothing of the past.  The slate is wiped clean and I am

free to write upon it whatsoever I choose.

This is my day.  No person has ever lived as I live, felt as I

feel, thought as I think or loved as I love.  No one ever will.  I

am a unique creation with rare and special combinations of

skills, talents, creativity and features.

Just as we feel great anticipation and expectancy at the

beginning of a new year, I can feel the same with the begin-

ning of a new day.  Every day is a new beginning and I will

treasure it as such.

This day can never be reclaimed.  It is an irreplaceable

jewel in the crown of my Sacred Life.

Today, I am a new man.

I begin a new day – yea, a new life.

Time and Goals

Time and Goals

The Most Valuable Commodity and Why You Must Control It

At one point in history salt was a very valuable commodity and it still should be considered valuable today.  Then gold and silver became the medium of exchange and gained value.  Now oil is considered “liquid gold” and its value is rising daily.  Let’s not forget diamonds which are “a girl’s best friend”.

However, all of these commodities pail in comparison to the most precious commodity of all, Time.

We each are given the same 24 hours each day.  97% of us waste most of our 24 hours every day.  Perhaps it can be said that we make good use of about 7-8 hours of our allotted time which is the time that we are asleep.

If we knew the secret, we could even make better use of those hours.  More on this later.

We spend another 10 to 12 hours, counting driving time, making someone else wealthy.  The rest of our 24 hours are spent eating, usually fast foods aka “junk food” and watching TV or other mind numbing activities.

The good news is that we have a choice.  We can choose to be in the “living dead” 97% group or we can choose to live in the wealthy 3% group.

Harvard Business School did a study on the financial status of its students 10 years after graduation and found that:

  • As many as 27 percent of them needed financial assistance.
  • A whopping 60 percent of them were living paycheck to paycheck.
  • A mere 10 percent of them were living comfortably.
  • And only 3 percent of them were financially independent.

The study also looked at goal setting and found these interesting correlations:

  • The 27 percent that needed financial assistance had absolutely no goal-setting processes in their lives.
  • The 60 percent that were living paycheck to paycheck had basic survival goals (such as managing to live paycheck to paycheck).
  • The 10 percent that were living comfortably had general goals. They thought they knew where they were going to be in the next five years.
  • The 3 percent that were financially independent had written out their goals and the steps required to reach those goals.

So use your time wisely.  Organize your time by setting goals.  Make your goals such that they will lead you toward greater success and therefore greater happiness.  Always keep in mind that concentrating only on making money will not bring you happiness or any degree of success.  You must work on all areas of your life.

Someday

Sometimes I find an article that says what I want to say much better than I could and this article by Dr. Bill Toth is one of these times.  Networking University has many very good articles and most of the are free.  They also offer many fine training teleseminars also for free.  Of course they would like you to enroll in their university program.  Unless you have money allocated for improving your skills, I would recommend you just stick with their free offers for now.

On to the article about the 8th day of the week, “Someday”.

Networking University
Presents

Someday

By Dr. Bill Toth

http://www.networkingtimes.com/

Looking at my calendar it’s easy to see Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday….and now I’m confused…where is “Someday”? Everybody talks about it. Everybody has all kinds of great things that they’re going to do or have accomplished on that day…Someday.

You’ve heard it before, “Someday I’ll lose that last 10lbs. Someday I’ll tell my boss what I really think. Someday I’ll make enough so my spouse doesn’t have to work. Someday I’ll take the family on that vacation. Someday I’ll be able to afford that car. Someday I’ll start saving for my kid’s college. Someday I’ll start my own business. Someday I’ll actually take the actions necessary to build my business. And Someday I’ll actually do what I know.”

As a physician I would hear it a lot in the hospital: Someday — after I get outta here and get well, then I’ll _____. As a success coach I often hear it in the context of a post-traumatic event such as divorce, business failure, bankruptcy, car wreck, as in “Someday after I get through this, then I’ll __ . And yes in my lifetime I’ve even said those words a time or two.

So just where is “Someday” on the calendar? No-where! It’s NOW-here!

Someday’s can happen this moment. They start with a pen, a paper and an unedited list. Simply start making a list of all the things you desire to be, do and have. There is no item too large, nor too small. It’s your life, your list….and for now keep it private.

Your conscious mind may whine a bit regarding wanting to know the “how” for each item. For now that is irrelevant. At this stage of the process it is never necessary to be conscious of the “How” - simply write your heart’s desire and keep writing and writing and writing. For some it helps to pretend you’re writing a Christmas wish list…if that helps you then use that metaphor.

Pay zero attention to your past accomplishments or failures…the past is past and it probably didn’t happen the way you think it did. Remember, the familiar story: four people standing on four corners all witness the same accident and when interviewed by police they each tell a completely different version of the event.

So it is with your past. It is very likely that the things you remember didn’t happen exactly the way you remember. So would now be a great time to remember them in a way that supports you?

Once you’ve completed your list…time for a little faith. Faith is simply gratitude in advance; so be grateful in advance for having already accomplished those items. This helps eliminate the fear regarding the how and will allow you to now ask yourself some great questions:

Who do I know who has already accomplished these things?
Who could I ask to assist me?

We all have resources and more importantly resourcefulness.

Finally, the most important part of the process is to use your calendar to allocate the time to pursue your to-do list. We all have the same twenty-four hours in a day. Why is it that some people use their time on earth to languish away in a victim role and others use it to squeeze every possible experience from life?

Someday maybe I’ll be able to answer that for you, but for now I’ll say this: You don’t know what you don’t know and you won’t know until you do. Start writing because if it’s not written, it’s not going to happen Someday or any day.

The Power of Two

The Power of Two

I used to ask myself almost daily, “What do I want to do when I grow up?”  Then one day I finally said, enough is enough already, “What do I want to do with my life?  If I keep asking and never sit down and listen I will never learn why I am here and what am I supposed to be doing with my life and what contribution to the world am I supposed to make?”

You see, we are all here to make a contribution, no matter how insignificant it may seem to others.

“Make your work to be in keeping with your purpose.” Leonardo da Vinci, the renowned Italian painter, sculptor and engineer.

If you have been keeping up with my blog you will notice that there is a central theme and that I keep repeating some things over and over.  That is for a purpose.

Part of the learning process requires that to make an idea your own, you must hear, feel, smell, see, or verbalize it at least 6 times.  That is why having video on your website is so very powerful, it uses more of your senses than any other medium.   (Yes, I will soon have some videos.)

OK, so have you written down your ideal day yet?  Have you discovered your passion or at least one of your passions?  Have you decided what contribution(s) you want to make to the universe?  If you have done these and you are ready to move on to the next step, let me know at gary@garygile.com.

If you don’t want to let me know, that’s OK.  You just will not progress as quickly as you would if you shared your aspirations with another.  If you have ever watched the show “Charmed” then you will know about the power of three.  “Charmed” is a cute show about 3 good witches.  However, their power to use good to fight evil works only when the 3 of them use their power together.  One alone is not enough strength to win.

Throughout history the concept of two or more working together can accomplish much more than one working by themselves and the result are exponential.  So  2 people working together does not give the results of two people working separately.  The results are much greater.

To succeed at your business, having a mentor and/or others to help you will make your success come much faster and greater.  So if you are like me and you don’t have the money to buy a franchise and hire people to run your business, you will need to rely on the help of others and to leverage your time.

One suggestion I have in this area is to make use of the power of network marketing and the power of the Internet.  The right combination of those two resources will help you greatly in your journey to success.
